How to Build a Low Budget Computer

Instructions

  1. 1
Check out some of the many bargain hunting sites on the Internet. These sites run the gamut, from message boards geared specifically to tech savvy viewers to general purpose boards where members can post coupon codes and "percentage-off" deals. Two of the best tech heavy bargain shopping sites are slickdeals.com and fatwallet.com. Sites like retailmenot.com and coupons.com provide more general savings, but they can also have some great tech deals.
    2
Join a local computer club. If you have a computer club in your area you may be able to purchase some excellent components from other members at a good price. Computer enthusiasts are constantly updating and upgrading their systems, and are often willing to part with old gear for low prices. You can also get some valuable tips for the other members on how you can build your dream PC for less.

    3
Check with a local computer recycling company for cheap but serviceable parts. There are a number of companies that specialize in taking old computers and rebuilding them. These rebuilt PCs are often donated to charity or sold at low cost to those who need them. You may be able to strike a deal with an individual who recycles computers on a part-time basis. To find a local individual or company, check the classified section of your local newspaper--recyclers often solicit donations of used PC equipment.
