How to Select The Best Desktop PC Configuration At Low Price

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • An idea about System configuration required for tools you use regularly.
  • Basic knowledge about computer hardware and peripherals.
  • New processors in Market and any recalls.
  • Reviews from buyers

1
Select the right processor for your computing needs.

Quad core processors were introduced to the electronics market in 2007. These processors let you work efficiently if your daily computing requires using high processing speed, like 3D Animation tools, AutoCAD or other engineering software.
However, if you are going to use your computer for basic computing like Internet browsing, Stock trading, E-mail and Microsoft Office products then Intel Dual Core, Core 2 Duo or a similar AMD processor would be just fine. The major cost in a Computer is its processor.
Also check the processor speed and Cache memory. For high processing needs, make sure you have at least 2 MB cache and about 2.2 GHz processor speed.
2
Operating System 32 bit or 64 bit.

For basic computing needs, the 32 bit or 64 bit figures do not matter. Most of today's computers and Laptops carry 32 bit operating systems and applications. 64 bit systems are new to the market and will be required when Companies start transition to make 64 bit applications. However, they will be backwards compatible with 32 bit operating systems.
If you use software like Mathworks SIMULINK, then you may need 64 bit operating system like Windows 7 or Windows Vista 64 bit to speed up your processing.
3
Selection Optical Drives and Hard Drive

A computer with DVD +/- RW will work fine for most people. However, if you are planning to watch Blu-Ray movies on your computer, you can get a drive with Blu-Ray disc capability. However, the Blu-Ray drives will increase your price significantly. I would recommend buying a separate standalone Blu-Ray disc player rather than a Computer drive. This will also increase your Disc Drive life.
With the increase in Electronic Data storage needs, hard disk technology has made it possible to store Terra bytes of data on your computer hard drives. However, for home use, anything above 320 GB hard disk space would work fine. In case you need extra storage capability, you can buy another hard drive or buy an external hard drive at a great deal.
4
Determining RAM Memory needs.

Computer marketing professionals try to lure people into buying computers by specifying its RAM memory. Again this depends on your computing need. For advanced computing, 4 GB of RAM will be enough to perform tasks efficiently. However, make sure that if required, you can expand its RAM in future. The keyword to look for is whether the RAM is "Dual Channel" and "DIMM". Also select RAM speed above 800 MHz
5
Video Graphics Card

High Definition is a hot topic today. If your idea is to watch videos and movies on your desktop occasionally, select a HD graphics card (High Definition). The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD is a good graphics card for High Definition needs.
6
Selecting a Sound Card, Monitor and Peripherals.

If you plan to use your computer primarily as a Media Center by connecting surround sound home theatre speakers, choose a sound card with either 5.1 Channel or 7.1 Channel output.
For a Desktop, usually a monitor with dimensions above 19" will work great.
Most of the manufacturers let you choose additional peripherals and accessories that go well with your computer. However, these are generally expensive if bought from the manufacturer. You can find good deals on wired or wireless mouse, keyboard, headphones, laptop bags and web cams online.
7
Research for a good Antivirus software before buying.

Most computer manufacturers provide 30 day trials of Anti Virus software along with computers. It is a good idea to download and try the trial versions of various anti virus software tools one after the other and see which one does not reduce your computing speed. Anti Virus softwares like AVG, Norton and Mcafee are very efficient.
